Project VALOR is a research study being conducted by the VA Boston Healthcare System and New England Research Institutes with funding from the Department of Defense. The objective of the study is to develop a national registry of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom veterans seen for clinical services at VA facilities. Eventually the de-identified data will be made available to qualified researchers in the academic community. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a potentially serious emotional disorder that can result from either military combat or other types of stressful situations. The symptoms can include sleep problems, mood changes, work difficulties and other behavior problems. This study is being conducted to learn more about which service members are most likely to have these symptoms, and what kind of help they have received for the problem. We are also interested in predicting and preventing suicidal behavior in veterans and in issues unique to female veterans. This phase of the project will take place over the next year and we will collect information once more. If you have any questions about Project VALOR feel free to contact the study staff. Phone numbers for the research staff are available here and here.
